WordCraft 0.7.0 came out on 14 October 2026, two days after 0.6.1. It’s smaller than the two releases before it. It adds direct printing and two spelling languages, and fixes a long list of everyday annoyances.
Print to a printer
Before 0.7.0, File › Print in the desktop app made a PDF and opened it in your system’s PDF viewer, and you printed from there. Now you can pick a printer and send the document to it directly, with copies, collation, two-sided and grayscale printing. With the print preview and page ranges that came in 0.6.1, printing works much as it does in Word. Printer driver options and several pages per sheet aren’t available yet.
Spelling in Italian and Croatian
WordCraft now checks Italian and Croatian text for spelling and grammar, and suggests corrections. Italian also gets hyphenation. As with Polish and Portuguese, WordCraft doesn’t include the dictionaries. It uses Hunspell dictionaries already on your computer and looks for them here:
System
Where WordCraft looks
Windows
%APPDATA%\WordCraft\dictionaries or %LOCALAPPDATA%\WordCraft\dictionaries, and the dictionaries of LibreOffice if it’s installed
macOS
~/Library/Spelling, /Library/Spelling, Homebrew’s share/hunspell, and LibreOffice if it’s installed
Linux
~/.local/share/hunspell, /usr/share/hunspell (where distributions install hunspell-it or hunspell-hr), and LibreOffice
A folder named in the WORDCRAFT_DICTIONARIES environment variable is searched first. Without a dictionary, text in that language simply gets no marks.
Files
Word 2003 XML. You can now save as a Word 2003 XML Document.
RTF files open in their own code page, so accented and non-Latin text comes through, and they keep their page size and margins. Tables are laid out on their cell edges.
Misnamed files. A Word or RTF file with the wrong extension opens anyway.
Pictures. Insert › Picture accepts WMF and EMF files.
Privacy option. Word can mark a document to remove personal information when it’s saved. WordCraft now honours that. Comments and tracked changes are saved under “Author”, and the file’s author fields are left empty. The option can also be set in File › Options › Trust Center.
Fonts and symbols
Text set in Wingdings, Webdings or Symbol shows the right symbols.
Font names with a Windows character-set suffix, such as “Times New Roman Cyr” or “Arial CE”, now use that font.
Previewing fonts in the font list no longer keeps every font it showed in memory, so memory use stops growing as you browse fonts.
Editing
Type =rand() or =lorem() in an empty paragraph and press Enter to fill in sample text, as in Word.
Middle-click scrolls the document.
The caret stays visible on coloured pages, shading and highlighting.
Clicking the ribbon or the status bar no longer takes typing away from the document.
Equations you copy paste into other programs as MathML.
A shape you drag into a column anchors there, so that column’s text wraps around it.
The buttons on comment balloons work, so an empty comment can be deleted.
Accept All no longer joins an extra paragraph after a tracked deletion at the end of a paragraph.
The File menu’s side bar now has Close.
For scripts and agents
wordcraft-cli text keeps bullet and number labels on list items.
Colour properties accept hex values such as "1B1611".
The MCP docs now list every character and paragraph property. See MCP and command line.
Updating
Download 0.7.0 from the download page. On Windows, the new installer replaces the old version, and your settings stay where they are. The download guides explain the details for each system.
This summary is ours, written from the list of changes below. We haven’t tested each change ourselves.
